Campus by the Sea

As of May 2012, Grade 10 will spend the year studying in Pattaya, on the eastern seaboard of Thailand. Mr. Mechai Viravaidya attended boarding school in Australia and he sees no reason as to why rural students here should not have the same opportunity to live and study away from home. The Pattaya campus, also constructed from bamboo, is located at the Birds and Bees Resort, a social enterprise that donates a substantial share of its profits to fund the operating costs of MPS.

In Pattaya, Grade 10 will be immersed in a different cultural, economic and social atmosphere. They will follow the regular curriculum but this will be strongly enhanced with lessons in the hospitality industry, renewable energy, water resource management, industrial operations, maritime affairs, the Royal Thai Navy, marine life, and business skills. The students will spend the weekends exploring the local educational attractions and embarking on various excursions as a way of maximizing their time away.

Initial support for the campus was made possible through a generous donation from the Matthew Kelly Family Foundation. The Kelly Lifelong Learning Center was constructed at the Birds & Bees Resort from 2011-2012, and it provides the opportunity for underprivileged students to study in a completely new environment.
